Soldiers neutralized 88 terrorists and arrested 228 people in the new attack — News — The Guardian Nigeria News – Nigeria and World News

In a new offensive against Boko Haram and Lakurawa terrorists, military troops killed 88 suspects and arrested more than 200 people in a week.

Defense Media Operations (DMO) Spokesperson Major General Edward Buba, who made the statement, said that soldiers arrested 40 oil theft perpetrators and rescued 181 kidnapped hostages.

Buba said the troops were attacking to crush terrorists in the Northwest and other parts of the country.

He noted that operations have been modified accordingly to imprison these terrorists while also increasing operational intensity to ensure complete destruction of all terrorist groups and dismantling of terrorist networks.

He also added that troops have been strongly deployed to provide assistance to the police to ensure that the governorship election in Ondo State, scheduled for November 16, 2024, goes off without disruption.

“In fact, the presence of the troops is to ensure the safety of citizens, enabling them to vote without any harassment or intimidation, while keeping mischief-makers at bay. NAF is already trying to fly sensitive election material in support of INEC

“Meanwhile, during the week under review, soldiers neutralized 88 people and arrested 228 people. Soldiers also arrested 40 oil thieves and rescued 181 kidnapped hostages. Soldiers in the SS denied the theft of oil estimated at only One Billion Two Four Million Four Hundred Twelve Thousand Nine Hundred and Fifty Naira (N1,021,412,950.00).

“In addition, soldiers seized 84 assorted weapons and 2,393 assorted ammunition. The distribution is as follows: 34 AK47 rifles, 15 fabricated rifles, 11 grain guns, 5 fabricated revolver pistols, 8 domestically produced pistols, 3 shotguns and 1 magnum shotgun.

“Others: 1,807 rounds of 7.62 mm special ammunition, 314 rounds of 7.62 mm NATO, 146 rounds of 7.62 mm PKM ammunition, 77 rounds of 9 mm ammunition, 49 live cartridges, 25 magazines, 2 baofeng radios, 16 vehicles, 35 motorcycles, 27 mobile phones and a total of N1,851,000.00 among other items.

“Troops in the Niger Delta region located and destroyed 13 crude oil cooking furnaces, 20 bunker pits, 73 boats, 25 storage tanks and 59 illegal refinery sites. Other items recovered include 3 barges, 7 speedboats, 73 barrels, a tricycle, 5 pumping machines, 3 mobile phones and 9 vehicles. Troops seized 942,420 liters of stolen crude oil, 175,075 liters of illegally refined AGO and 4,980 liters of PMS.

“Overall, troop offensives have severely depleted the rank and numbers of ISWAP terrorists in the Northeast, forcing a desperate recruitment effort. Similarly, terrorists in the Northwest are also running a recruitment campaign on social media. The troops are aware of the situation and are working with other security agencies and governments to thwart the plans,” General Buba said.
