NEW YORK – Veteran NBC anchor and news anchor Craig Melvin was selected Replace Hoda Kotb as co-host of the “Today” show, which runs from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m.

Melvin is a familiar face to “Today” show viewers. He currently hosts the third hour of the program, serving as the news anchor for the first two hours. He will continue to host the third hour with Al Roker, Dylan Dreyer and Sheinelle Jones.

“He was an integral and beloved part of our family,” said Libby Leist, senior vice president of “Today.” he said in a statement. “From breaking news on the field to presidential interviews to multiple Olympics and Super Bowls, Craig has shown that he has the talent and breadth to cover everything we do here on ‘Today.’ And he does it without ever losing his Southern charm.”

Kotb’s last official day on the show will be January 10. He announced in September that he would leave “Today” after ABC’s “Good Morning America,” which generally ranked third in the morning ratings. NBC News has not announced the casting for Kotb’s other role in the 10 a.m. slot opposite Jenna Bush Hager.

“I’ve just enjoyed a lifetime of blessings and this is the last one,” Melvin said live on Thursday. She said of Kotb and Guthrie: “You are the sisters I never thought I needed.” And he said of Kotb, “you saved the show”; While this was an exaggeration, it was a reference to his hasty takeover of the business after the incident.
