Ringo Starr and Paul McCartney commemorate US Beatlemania in documentary trailer

The trailer for the new Beatles documentary features new interviews with Sir Ringo Starr and Sir Paul McCartney, reminding us what it was like to set foot in the US at the height of Beatlemania.

Beatles ’64 will be about the Liverpool band consisting of John Lennon, Sir Paul, George Harrison and Sir Ringo landing at Kennedy Airport in New York City on February 7, 1964, and is produced by Oscar-winning filmmaker Martin Scorsese.

It will capture the Fab Four’s camaraderie alongside never-before-seen footage of the band.

In the Disney+ teaser released on Thursday, black-and-white footage shows the band chatting with strong Liverpool accents on a bus, joking, smoking and unsure of which city they are in during their US tour.

Reflecting on that period, Sir Paul recalls that their trip to America came shortly after President John F Kennedy was assassinated in Dallas, Texas, in 1963.

“Maybe America needed something like The Beatles to shake off the sadness,” says the 82-year-old.

Sir Ringo is also seen interviewing Scorsese.

“We were like, ‘We’re in America, we were in America!’” Sir Ringo says as the producer laughs. “we were saying”

At one point where footage of girls screaming and fainting is shown, he says: “I think there was something crazy going on in the world and in the band, we were kind of normal and the rest of the world was crazy too. “When The Beatles came to town, everyone went crazy.”

The film is directed by David Tedeschi and produced by Sir Paul and Sir Ringo, along with Harrison’s widow Olivia and Lennon’s son Sean.
