Maurice park destroyed by suspects doing donuts on the grass

MAURICE, KATC — Authorities have located two suspects who allegedly drove their vehicle onto the grounds of the only park in Maurice, tearing up dirt and leaving behind significant damage.

The incident occurred last Thursday, when the suspects, one a Maurice resident and the other a visitor, allegedly made “donuts” with their vehicles in the park’s front yard. The drivers caused a massive commotion and an estimated $700 to $1,000 in damage.

“It’s a little disturbing, you know,” Maurice Police Chief Guy Nerren said. “You’d think little kids would do this, but this time it was people in their mid-20s. “We’re trying to make it a nice place for them to come and enjoy with their families, and it’s a shame you came and destroyed the park. I guarantee they wouldn’t do that in their own backyard.

The park, which serves as an important recreational area for Maurice residents, has been subject to vandalism in the past. However, Chief Nerren emphasized that society will not tolerate such behavior.

“If you want to commit a crime, don’t come to Maurice because we will track you down,” he said.

The damage occurred when the suspects accelerated their vehicles on wet roads, facilitating the donut maneuver, leaving behind tire tracks and a scattering of rocks.

“This is not just a simple donut in the field. “You’re punching a hole in the parking lot,” said Maurice Mayor Neil Arsement.

The identities of the suspects were identified in a short time, thanks to the security cameras in the park that helped the police teams follow the movements of the suspects. Mayor Arsement praised the effectiveness of the cameras installed as part of the town’s ongoing efforts to improve public safety.

“We are very grateful to have these cameras in our park, and we will implement them to the extent the law allows us,” Arsement said. “We’re not going to tolerate this. We’re using taxpayer money to make improvements here, and it’s not fair for outsiders or people in our community to damage people’s property.”

Despite the setback, Mayor Arsement emphasized that the town continues to move forward with plans to improve the park. In the coming weeks, a new toilet facility will be installed for the first time in years. The town is also working with architects to design new walking paths and is exploring the possibility of expanding the park to include baseball fields.

“There’s a lot of things and improvements coming to our community, and we certainly don’t want any harm caused by these guys or anyone else considering coming here,” Arsement added.

While the investigation continues, both the police department and town officials are committed to ensuring the park remains a safe and enjoyable place for families and visitors alike.
