Murder charge dismissed for young man arrested in connection with the shooting death of an 80-year-old woman

SAN ANTONIO – A young man accused Shot and killed 80-year-old woman Court records show the murder charge was dismissed.

The charge against 19-year-old Jacob Rios was dismissed on October 24.

Rios’ murder charge was dismissed before indictment, according to court records.

San Antonio police arrested Rios and an unidentified 16-year-old male on July 27 in connection with the shooting death of 80-year-old Heidi Silkworth.

The shooting occurred around 10 p.m. on May 26 in the 600 block of East César E. Chávez Boulevard.

San Antonio police officers said when they arrived at the scene, they found Silkworth, an innocent bystander who had just attended a graduation ceremony at the Alamodome, with a gunshot wound to the head.

Police said the attack occurred when Rios and the 16-year-old male were robbing another person. Police said the victim of the robbery was armed and began shooting at Rios and the 16-year-old male.

Rios and the 16-year-old boy returned fire as he ran from the robbery victim, SAPD said. Silkworth, one of the passengers in a passing SUV during the shootings, was shot and killed, according to police.

Another person believed to have been involved in the shooting was also seriously injured during the shooting. It is unknown whether this person is Rios, the 16-year-old male, or the robbery victim.

Authorities said the attack remains under investigation.
