Gaza Civil Defense Spokesperson Mahmud Basal said that more than 100 thousand people, especially women and children, were trapped in the north of the besieged Gaza Strip.

I’m talking Speaking to Lebanese news network Al-Mayadeen on Sunday, Basal described a dire situation in which medical services were unavailable and the global community, which often upholds democratic values, observed Gaza’s suffering without intervention.

Basal reported that Civil Defense received constant calls from residents of northern Gaza asking for urgent assistance to rescue the injured and rescue the dead from the rubble.

He said medical personnel in northern Gaza were civilians because Israeli forces prevented any official medical system from operating in the area.

Basal also drew attention to critical food and medicine shortages and said that 137 bodies remained under the rubble of a recently collapsed building in Beit Lahia.

According to Basal’s statement, despite repeated calls, no international organization responded to the Civil Defense’s calls.

The spokesman also noted that more than 1,300 deaths have been recorded in northern Gaza since the intensification of the Israeli blockade began less than a month ago.

The region, including Jabaliyah Camp and Beit Lahia, remained under siege for 30 days due to continuous air and artillery attacks; Thousands were left dead or injured, and the area was cut off from the rest of Gaza.

The United Nations on Friday issued a stark warning about “apocalyptic” conditions in northern Gaza, warning that the population faces the imminent threat of disease, hunger and violence.

Ongoing Genocide

Israel has faced international condemnation for its ongoing brutal assault on Gaza, in defiance of a UN Security Council resolution demanding an immediate ceasefire.

Israel, which is currently on trial at the International Court of Justice for the crime of genocide against Palestinians, has been waging a devastating war in Gaza since October 7.

According to the Gaza Ministry of Health, 43 thousand 341 Palestinians lost their lives and 102 thousand 105 Palestinians were injured as a result of Israel’s ongoing genocide in Gaza since October 7, 2023.

Moreover, at least 11,000 unnamed people are estimated to have died under the rubble of their homes along the strip.

Israel says 1,200 soldiers and civilians were killed at Al-Aqsa Mosque on October 7. Israeli media published reports that day claiming that many Israelis were killed as a result of ‘friendly fire’.

Palestinian and international organizations say that the majority of those killed and injured are women and children.

The Israeli war led to a severe famine, mostly in northern Gaza, resulting in the deaths of many Palestinians, mostly children.

Israel’s aggression also resulted in the forced displacement of approximately two million people from across the Gaza Strip; The vast majority of those displaced were forced to go to the densely populated southern city of Rafah, near the Egyptian border, which has become Palestine’s largest city. Mass migration since the Nakba of 1948.

In the later stages of the war, hundreds of thousands of Palestinians began to migrate from the south towards the center of Gaza in search of permanent security.
