Man who planted explosives on Haridwar-Dehradun railway line arrested

A man was arrested in Haridwar on October 29 for allegedly planting explosives on the Haridwar-Dehradun railway line in Uttarakhand, officials said.

The Haridwar Government Railway Police (GRP) received information about the detonators lying on the railway track near Moti Chur railway station from the Moradabad Railway Division control room on Sunday night, he said.

They added that a GRP team rushed to the scene and recovered the detonators.

Haridwar GRP Senior Police Inspector Sarita Dobhal said CCTV footage showed a man moving suspiciously along the railway tracks.

He said after scanning CCTV footage, the suspect was identified as Ashok, a resident of Rampur in Uttar Pradesh, and was arrested.

Dobhal stated that a large number of detonators were seized from the accused and added that a case was filed against Ashok.

SSP said that the accused’s motive behind the incident is not yet clear and the accused is still being interrogated.
