Inspector and Police Constable Attacked in Jamia Nagar, Delhi, for Stopping Bike with Noisy Muffler

The incident took place on Saturday when Station House Officer (SHO) Inspector Narpal Singh of Jamia Nagar police station was on night patrol with his team.

A father-son duo was arrested for assaulting a Delhi Police inspector and constable after officers stopped their Bullet motorcycle in southeast Delhi’s Jamia Nagar and objected to the modified loud muffler, officials said on Sunday.

The incident took place on Saturday, when Station House Officer (SHO) Inspector Narpal Singh of Jamia Nagar police station was on night patrol with his team.

He noticed that a Royal Enfield motorcycle was making excessive noise and instructed his team to stop the vehicle for inspection. They confirmed that the muffler had been modified illegally, producing sound beyond permissible limits and in violation of the Motor Vehicles Act.

As soon as the police initiated legal action against the driver Asif (24), his father called Riyazuddin to the scene. The incident took place around 8.45 pm near Batla House in Jamia Nagar.

What Led to the Physical Attack?

When Asif’s father reached the scene, he tried to take the motorcycle and asked the police to resolve the issue with an unlawful approach. He even threatened the SHO with dire consequences if they did not release the motorcycle.

The heated argument turned into a physical attack when the SHO refused to release the motorcycle. Asif and his father grabbed the officer and punched him near his eye, causing injuries.

Shortly after, the father-son duo was neutralized by police personnel, including constable Ramkesh, who was also injured. The injured police officers were taken to a nearby hospital for treatment.

An FIR was registered against both defendants on the grounds that they obstructed the police from doing their duty and assaulted the police while on duty. Both were arrested, a senior police officer said.
