Seneca Polytechnic will temporarily close its Markham campus

Seneca Polytechnic says it is temporarily closing one of its campuses north of Toronto due to the federal government’s recent cuts to the number of international student permits.

The university said the cuts would result in a decrease in enrollment and that Markham, Ont. He says he expects it will require the closure of his campus.

The temporary closure will begin at the end of the fall 2024 semester.

Programs planned for the campus will be shifted to the school’s Newnham and York facilities in Toronto, starting in winter 2025.

Ottawa announced in January that it would limit international study permits in 2024, but last month it reduced that number by a further 10 percent, eliminating 300,000 quotas for international students.

Canada plans to limit the number of international student permits to 437,000 in 2025 and 2026.
