Ohio State DB status vs. Nebraska

Ohio State DB status vs. Nebraska

Ohio State safety Lathan Ransom will not play in Saturday’s game against Nebraska due to his recovery from an undisclosed injury, according to ESPN’s Pete Thamel.

There was hope that Ransom could use the Buckeyes’ off weekend to rehabilitate his illness and return, but that plan did not work out and he will miss today’s game.

Ohio State has designated Ransom day-to-day due to injury, so the program doesn’t seem to be too concerned about his short-term status.

Ransom has been the primary contributor on Ohio State’s pass defense this season, allowing just under 8 yards per reception and a single touchdown, according to Pro Football Focus numbers.

He is tied with safety Caleb Downs for the most tackles on the team with 4.5 tackles for loss and has 2 forced fumbles, one of which resulted in a touchdown in the opener against Akron.

But this isn’t the first injury Ransom has faced in his Ohio State career.

The linebacker broke his leg on a special teams play during the Rose Bowl, which concluded the 2021 season, and broke his thumb during the 2022 season.

He missed the last 5 games of last season due to a Lisfranc tear in his foot.

Ohio State head coach Ryan Day said Malik Hartford and Jaylen McClain will get more reps in the defensive backfield if Ransom is unable to play.

No. 4 Ohio State (5-1, 2-1 Big Ten) hosts Nebraska on Saturday at 12 p.m. Eastern.
