It was stated that all the defendants, three of whom were minors, were arrested.

According to the accused, two boys named Jitender and Nitish were harassing a friend’s sister “every day”, so they decided to teach them a lesson. Police said a fight broke out between them on Friday and one of them suffered a serious head injury.

Mahender and three others fled the scene after defeating Jitender and Nitish. They said Nitish was rushed to Bhagwan Mahavir Hospital by his mother where he was declared brought dead.

Deputy Commissioner of Police Abhishek Dhania said that based on the statement of Nitish’s mother, a case of murder has been registered at Subhash Place and an investigation has been initiated.

The police began to review the footage from security cameras installed around the scene. He said they had also begun technical surveillance, engaged informants and also collected humanitarian intelligence from locally deployed sources.

A trap was later laid and after a short chase, Mahender and the three boys were caught in Shakurpur, the DCP said.

Another officer said that after prolonged interrogation, they confessed their involvement in the murder and revealed that Jitender wanted to be friends with a girl from Shakurpur and was harassing her every day. The girl was the sister of a friend of the defendant.

On November 8, the four accused threatened Jitender with dire consequences if he continued to approach the girl. “Thereupon, a fight broke out between them and Nitish suffered serious head injuries and died,” he said.

Further efforts are being made to see if they are involved in another case, the official said.
