IT Engineer arrested for raping colleague with fake promise of marriage in Bhubaneswar

Commissionerate Police on Friday arrested an IT Engineer on charges of sexually assaulting his colleague on fake promise of marriage in the capital Odisha. The accused was identified as Subhash Nayak.

Nayak was on the run for the last six months. He surrendered on Friday and was subsequently arrested, sources said.

According to sources, Subhash was working in the same IT company as the victim. He lured her into a relationship with the false promise of marriage and developed a physical relationship with her. But after sexually assaulting her multiple times, he left her when she started talking to him about marriage.

Left with no other option, the victim approached the Badagada police in June and filed a written complaint regarding the incident. However, the suspect has been on the run since then. He tried to ask the court to release him on bail.

It was learned that Subhash finally surrendered today after the court rejected his bail requests.

No comment could be received from senior officials of the Commissionerate Police in this regard.
