Residents living near the scene of last night’s alleged murder say they are shocked by what happened on the normally quiet Auckland street.

Police were called to a property on Brandon Road in Glen Eden shortly after 11pm on Sunday night to find a woman stabbed multiple times.

He was taken to hospital but died a short time later.

A 33-year-old man was arrested at the scene and charged with murder.

Neighbors described Brandon Rd as a quiet, family-friendly area.

Fia, who lives on a property next to the police cordon, told RNZ she was saddened to hear what happened.

“This is a quiet street and unfortunately this happened… next door, it’s a bit scary.”

Fia said she didn’t know her neighbors.

“We don’t talk, but their kids play with our kids all the time.”

Further down the road, Jeremy Armstrong said the area was generally safe.

“It’s normally a pretty quiet neighborhood; it’s very surprising.”

The arrested man was expected to appear in Waitākere District Court on Monday and police were not looking for anyone else.
