ALPENA, Michigan, (WPBN/WGTU) — A man died by suicide in Alpena after fleeing a traffic stop on foot.

In a statement from the Alpena Police Department, it was stated that at 2:38 pm on Saturday, officers warned law enforcement to “be on the lookout for a reckless driver.”

The vehicle was later located near McRae Park and a traffic stop was attempted.

Police said the 47-year-old driver got out of the vehicle and ran into a house.

Police said the man left the house after staying there for a short time and “committed suicide by running a short distance.”

Police said the investigation into the incident is ongoing and the man’s identity has not yet been released out of respect for his family.

Michigan State Police assisted officers with the incident, the police department said.
