Waterbury – NBC: 1 person died and 3 people were seriously injured as a result of a multi-car crash in Connecticut.

One person was killed and three others were seriously injured in a multi-vehicle crash in Waterbury Sunday morning. Investigators said two more people fled the scene before police arrived and have not been located or identified at this time.

Officers responded to a three-car crash around 3:15 a.m. in the 400 block of Baldwin Street.

Police said the crash involved a 2013 Dodge Dart, a 2018 Ford EcoSport and a 2013 Jeep Grand Cherokee.

According to police, a 47-year-old man from New Haven was driving the Dodge Dart and was taken to the hospital with serious injuries. A passenger in his vehicle, identified as 46-year-old Andrea Sherman of Waterbury, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver and passenger of the Ford EcoSport were also injured in the accident. Two 22-year-old men from Waterbury were taken to the hospital with serious injuries, authorities said.

The occupants of the Jeep Grand Cherokee reportedly fled before police arrived. They have not yet been found or identified. It is not yet known whether anyone in the vehicle was injured in the accident.

The A&W Grocery Store on Baldwin Street was hit during the crash. Despite minor damage, the building was determined to be safe and habitable by the building inspector.
