Dutch plane skids off runway after emergency landing in Norway

Oslo:

A plane bound for Amsterdam left the runway at Oslo Torp Sandefjord Airport in Norway after an emergency landing. The incident occurred on Saturday night, when a Boeing 737-800 operated by KLM Royal Dutch Airlines experienced a hydraulic failure shortly after taking off from Oslo Airport, prompting the crew to divert to Sandefjord Airport.

This incident came hours before a Boeing 737-800 plane operated by Jeju Air flying from Bangkok to South Korea with 181 people on board crashed while landing at Muan International Airport on Sunday, with all but two people pulled from the wreckage feared dead.

According to media reports, the KLM plane had 176 passengers and six crew members on board. He landed safely at Sandefjord Airport, 110 kilometers south of Oslo. However, a video of the plane veering off the runway during landing and coming to rest on soft grass near the taxiway is widely shared on social media.

The video shows passengers being evacuated from the plane using portable staircases while emergency response teams arrived at the site. Luckily, all 182 people on the plane escaped unharmed.

Later, KLM confirmed the incident in a statement and said that a loud noise was heard during takeoff and this caused distraction. NOS said in a report that the pilots were unable to control the plane during landing and the plane skidded and entered the grass next to the runway.

The airline also assured that passengers and crew were not harmed, were well cared for, and an investigation into the incident had been launched.

According to Dutch media reports, the flight took off from Oslo at 18.55 local time and landed at Torp’s Sandefjord airport at 19.14 local time.

Reports stated that after being safely evacuated, all passengers were transported by bus to Torp Sandefjord airport terminal, and everyone got off the plane just before 21:00 (local time).
