Sikh Activist Bakshish Singh Survives ‘Assassination Attempt’ When Assailants Opened Fire on His Car

Sikh activist Bakshish Singh narrowly escaped injury after unidentified assailants opened fire on his car in Punjab’s Patiala district, police said on Sunday. According to ABP Sanjha, unidentified assailants opened fire on Bakshish Singh near Patiala’s new bus stand while he was returning from his village Najamwala.

The incident took place around 1.30 am on Patiala South Ring Road near Urban Estate. Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Nanak Singh confirmed that an investigation is ongoing and an FIR has been lodged at Urban Estate police station.

According to police sources quoted by news agency PTI, Baba Bakshish Singh, known for raising various issues including the release of Bandi Singhs (Sikh prisoners), was returning to his home in SST Nagar from Gurdwara Karhali Sahib near Samana. was attacked.

PTI sources stated that two or three shots were fired at Bakshish Singh’s vehicle but he managed to escape unhurt. Initial reports suggested that the attackers arrived in vehicles such as Scorpio, Brezza and Verna.

According to political parties like Bandi Singhs, Shiromani Akali Dal, it refers to Sikh prisoners who remain in jail despite completing their sentences.

The investigation into the attack continues. No injuries were reported.

Punjab Police Arrests 5 Aides of Two Gangs for Planning Targeted Murder

Separately, five persons allegedly belonging to the Jaggu Bhagwanpuria and Amritpal Bath gangs, which were allegedly planning target-oriented killings, were arrested by the Punjab Police, officials said on Sunday, according to PTI.

Four weapons were also seized from the detained persons.

“In a major breakthrough, Tarn Taran Police arrested 5 associates of Jaggu Bhagwanpuria and Amritpal Bath gangs and seized 4 weapons, including a Glock 9mm pistol,” Punjab Director General of Police Gaurav Yadav said in a post on X. he said.

According to him, preliminary investigation suggested that the accused was planning target-oriented murder. Important details have emerged about the hitman involved in the gang’s recent targeted murder in the Tarn Taran region.

Further investigation is on to trace their back and forth links, senior police said.
