Amy Melissa Sowers has a second active case in Montgomery County court regarding the alleged theft of an unoccupied SUV in September.

A Hatfield County woman with an active Montgomery County Common Pleas case accuses him of stealing an idling SUV and driving it to Limerick Town Following a preliminary hearing this month, a charge of felony criminal damage to property was filed in district court.

Amy Melissa Sowers had misdemeanor charges of retail theft and receiving stolen property dismissed at a Dec. 4 hearing stemming from a Sept. 9 incident at Shop Rite in Hatfield Township in which she was accused of stealing sushi, according to court records.

But the most serious charge against him went to trial in January. Hatfield Police accuse him of keying two cars in a Lowe’s parking lot in August, causing more than $7,000 in damage.

Police allege Sowers stole sushi and a soda from Shop Rite after keying the cars on Aug. 10.

An arrest warrant was issued Nov. 4 for charges of criminal mischief by destruction of property, misdemeanor retail theft and receiving stolen property, according to court records.

A distinctive tattoo on Sowers’ arm led authorities to link him to the crimes through video surveillance, police said.

On Aug. 10 at 11:53 a.m., police responded to the hardware store at 160 Forty Foot Road for a complaint of vandalism to a car, police said. The victim told police he parked his red Honda Accord in the parking lot at 10:30 a.m. and when he returned an hour later there was a large scratch on the entire passenger side of the Honda.

Police said estimated damage to the Honda was $2,866.

Lowe’s security camera footage allegedly shows Sowers walking toward the parking lot from the area of ​​Forty Foot and Welsh roads at 10:48 a.m. Two minutes later, Sowers allegedly passed the Honda, walked close to the passenger side and appeared to touch the car. Honda.

Sowers then allegedly continued east through the parking lot, passing a white Toyota Corolla three rows ahead of the Honda, and touching the Toyota as he passed it.

Police said Sowers then walked into Shop Rite and video showed him leaving the store with sushi and a bottle of Coke without paying.

Towamencin Township Police advised the suspect as Sowers, who had a tattoo on the inside of his forearm that matched the suspect’s tattoo in the video, while a still frame of Sowers was sent to area police departments for identification, according to the affidavit.

Police received a call from the owner of the Corolla at 2:01 p.m. stating that his car had a deep scratch on the passenger side and the estimated damage was $4,209.

According to the complaint, police spoke to Sowers at his home at 4 p.m. on Sept. 30 and recognized his tattoo there from surveillance video.

Investigators said Sowers was arrested in Oklahoma in 2019 for retail theft.
