Jay-Z’s lawyer warned of ‘inappropriate’ actions by judge as Sean Combs faces new trial | Ents and Art News

The judge presiding over the case of a woman who said she was raped by Jay-Z and Sean “Diddy” Combs when she was 13, criticized the “inappropriate” behavior of Jay-Z’s lawyer.

In a written order, Judge Analisa Torres criticized Alex Spiro for what she described as combative actions and “inflammatory language” toward the plaintiff’s attorney, Tony Buzbee.

Mr Spiro – acting on behalf of jay z for about three weeks – previously called for the identity of the Alabama woman to be released. She is currently identified only as “Jane Doe,” a legal term in the U.S. that denotes her anonymity.

The Manhattan judge said he can proceed anonymously at this stage, but may be required to reveal his identity at a later date.

Combs He is in a Brooklyn jail awaiting trial on federal sex trafficking and racketeering charges. He pleaded not guilty.

He faces a slew of sexual assault lawsuits filed by Mr. Buzbee, a Texas lawyer who says his firm has represented more than 150 people, both men and women, many of whom alleged sexual abuse and exploitation by Combs.

The lawsuits allege that several people were harassed after being given drugged drinks at parties in New York, California and Florida.

Combs’ lawyers called Mr. Buzbee’s lawsuits “shameless publicity efforts designed to extract payments from celebrities who fear that lies will be spread about them, just as lies are being spread about Mr. Combs.”

Jay-Z, whose real name is Sean Carter, has previously said Mr. Buzbee tried to blackmail him into settling the plaintiff’s claims.

Mr. Buzbee said in an email that his firm does not comment on court decisions.

In her lawsuit, the woman claimed that Jay-Z and Sean Combs raped her after the MTV Video Music Awards in 2000, when she was 13 years old.

Both men vehemently deny the allegations.

Mr. Spiro had previously asked the judge to remove Jay-Z from the woman’s case.

Citing an interview the plaintiff had with Sky’s US partner NBC News, Mr Spiro wrote that the broadcast had revealed “glaring inconsistencies and obvious impossibilities” in the plaintiff’s story.

Woman admitted inconsistenciesHe said he “made some mistakes” but generally stood by his claims.

In Thursday’s order, Judge Torres wrote that Mr. Spiro “filed a series of letters and motions that sought to impugn the character of Plaintiff’s counsel, many of which explained the purported ‘urgency’ of this case.”

He added: “Carter’s attorney’s incessant filing of belligerent motions containing inflammatory language and ad hominem attacks is inappropriate, a waste of judicial resources, and a tactic unlikely to benefit his client. The court will not expedite the judicial process simply because counsel requests it. BT.”

He said Mr. Spiro himself had not followed the rules, accusing the plaintiff’s lawyer of having a “chronic inability to follow the rules.” He warned her against future “unacceptable” behavior.

Sky News has contacted Mr Spiro for comment.
