It was stated that the dead were Pankaj Malik, a native of Bagpat in Uttar Pradesh, and Virender Kumar, a resident of the region. Police said the injured Arjun, also a local, was receiving treatment at the hospital.

The incident took place in Kheri Lakha Singh village between 08.00 and 08.30 on a foggy morning. Investigators said that as the three men left the gym and were about to sit in their vehicles, four or five assailants arrived on a motorcycle and opened fire on them several times.

While two people lost their lives, the condition of the other person is critical. Police said the incident was recorded by security camera. After the incident, the traitors escaped.

While the three were rushed to the hospital, Pankaj and Virender were declared dead. Arjun was admitted to a private hospital, then transferred to a hospital in Mohali for serious gunshot injuries.

Locals said they first perceived the firing as a fireworks action that took place a few meters away from the police station. Following the incident, a large number of police teams reached the scene and Superintendent of Police (SP) Rajiv Deswal also inspected the scene.

People familiar with the matter said this appeared to be the result of a liquor dispute as Virender and Arjun were involved in the liquor trade with Pankaj, a liquor contractor. The involvement of rival Monu Rana and Kala Rana gangs was also being investigated.

However, there is no official confirmation from the police yet.

Both Shamsher Singh, alias Monu Rana and Virender Pratap, alias Kala Rana, are jailed gangsters accused of dealing in illegal liquor in the area and are known as their arch rivals. Kala is a resident of Yamunanagar city, while Monu belongs to Barara town of Ambala district.

Police said that an investigation into the matter has been launched and all important leads are being investigated. The route where the attackers escaped was detected thanks to the security cameras installed in the surrounding area.

The SP said that based on a complaint, a case has been registered against unidentified persons under various charges under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the Arms Act.

When asked about the number and reason for the shots fired, he said, “Although the final report is awaited for estimation, approximately 30-35 shots were fired. We are investigating every angle to determine if this is a personal dispute or gang rivalry. “Several teams are in place and progress is likely to be made soon.”

The incident has once again put a question mark on the law and order situation in Haryana. The incident occurred four days after three people, including a woman, were shot dead by unidentified assailants in the parking lot of a hotel in the border district of Panchkula.

Congress MP Sirsa Kumari Selja said the daytime firing proves that the attackers are not afraid of the administration and people are scared enough to come out of their homes.
