Kamloops scammer who defrauded feds of K in EI scam pleads guilty – Kamloops News

EI fraudster confessed to crime

A Kamloops man has admitted to fraudulently collecting more than $20,000 in business insurance.

John Floyd Albiston, 54, pleaded guilty Wednesday in Kamloops provincial court to six charges of making false claims.

At a previous hearingA prosecutor summarizing the case against Albiston said he worked 39 weeks in 2018 and 2019 and fraudulently collected EI payments totaling $20,919. During the same period, Albiston generated approximately $59,000 in employment income.

EI is paid only to unemployed people. Each buyer is required to declare every two weeks that he/she does not receive any income.

Albiston is a concrete worker who worked for EI as recently as this year. His lawyer has previously said he was using drugs while the crimes were being committed and made “very poor decisions”.

He confessed his crime in August these requests were withdrawn After a judge objected in a joint submission stating that no prison sentence would be served.

Albiston, who is not in custody, will be subject to a pre-sentence report before sentencing. Lawyers will return to court to set a date for this on January 20.
