Shocking surveillance footage shows thieves breaking into a Birmingham business and making off with thousands of people

BIRMINGHAM, Ala.(WBRC) – Thieves attacked four different Birmingham restaurants early Wednesday morning.

On Valley Boulevard, criminals broke into both El Taco Loco and the Great Wall. Business owners and employees are disgusted by the whole situation and hope the police find those responsible.

“We saw four commercial burglaries. Two of the incidents occurred in the Uptown entertainment district and the other two occurred in the Valley Avenue District, Birmingham Police Officer Truman Fitzgerald said.

The Great Wall Owner shared with us security footage showing thieves using a crowbar to break the window, then run to the safes and steal more than $2,000 in cash. Police are investigating each of the incidents and trying to determine whether they are all connected.

“The two businesses in the Valley Boulevard area are strikingly similar. However, the two businesses in the Uptown District may be different,” Officer Fitzgerald said.

Police responded to the Great Wall early Wednesday morning and returned when the sun rose to speak with the owners and look at security footage. Officer Fitzgerald is now encouraging other business owners to take steps to protect themselves this holiday season.

“Our historical data shows that thefts like what we’re seeing are happening during this time period. So we can use this as a good opportunity to really solidify some good leads as we head into the holiday season. The alarm system and surveillance footage makes it harder for them,” said Fitzgerald.

The Great Wall team said they would make security improvements to protect themselves and reopened their doors less than 24 hours after the break-in.

Police are asking anyone with information to come forward and share what they know. If you wish to remain anonymous, you can contact Crime Stoppers at 205-254-7777.
