North suburban endocrinologist killed in domestic shooting, police say

Authorities discovered Monday that a northern suburban woman was shot to death in what police described as a domestic dispute.

Olga Duchon, 42, was found with a gunshot wound Sunday afternoon in the 400 block of West Russell Street in Barrington, according to a Barrington police press release.

Duchon, who lived in the 800 block of Saugatuck Trail in Vernon Hills, was pronounced dead at Advocate Good Shepherd Hospital in Barrington, police said. The Lake County coroner’s office did not immediately respond to a question about the autopsy results Monday afternoon.

Police said the investigation into the attack continues.

Duchon was a featured speaker at a conference on obesity management in Wheeling hours before he was killed, said Maria Hrycelak, president of the Ukrainian Foundation for North American Medicine.

The event ends Sunday at 4 p.m., Hrycelak said. Police said they responded to a call of a person shot at 5:40 p.m.

Hrycelak said he was shocked by Duchon’s death, describing her as “a very bright, intelligent, well-educated young lady.” He said Duchon was “well-known” in the northwest suburbs as an endocrinologist and mother of a young child.

Duchon worked for the Northwestern University Health system until 2023 but was still treating patients as an independent physician at some of the system’s suburban hospitals, a spokesman for the hospital system said.
