Former Charlotte HS track and cross country coach accused of taking improper liberties with student-athlete

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (QUEEN CITY NEWS) – A former track and cross country coach at a private school in Charlotte has been arrested for allegedly having an inappropriate relationship with a runner, according to police.

The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department says on Nov. 8, an adult victim reported to officers that she had been in a relationship with her coach, Matthew Elliott, while she was a high school student.

Officers said the victim told them Elliott, now 39, initially began flirting with her and made “numerous advances” and that they had an inappropriate relationship.

CMPD detectives reportedly arrested Elliott without incident at his home on Nov. 13. The man, accused of two counts of indecent liberties with a student, remains in custody at the Mecklenburg County Sheriff’s Office.
