Louis Ng on the Administration of Justice (Protection) (Amendment) Bill

MP Louis Ng said the Administration of Justice (Protection) (Amendment) Bill clarifies that serious abuse of court process amounts to contempt of court. Speaking in Parliament on Wednesday (November 13), he said the changes were aimed at preventing abuse of judicial processes through frivolous and vexatious litigation, but efforts should be made to minimize possible undesirable effects. He also asked for clarification on the bill. One of these concerns what deceiving the court is. He wanted to know how to distinguish cases between deception of the court and the use of court proceedings as part of a fair trial strategy. As for what constitutes manifestly unfounded or ill-founded court proceedings, Mr. Ng wanted to know the qualitative difference between a manifestly unfounded or unfounded suit and a suit without any merit.
