Three workers died in fire caused by chemical leakage in well in Gujarat’s Navsari

Three workers were burnt to death and three others were injured in a fire caused by chemical leakage in an excavation in Gujarat’s Navsari district on Saturday, November 9, 2024, police said.

Deputy Superintendent of Police (DySP) B V Gohil said the fire broke out around 9 am when workers were unloading drums containing chemicals from a truck in Devsar village of Billimoria taluka.

“3 workers died, 3 others were injured and hospitalized,” he said.

Mr. Gohil said five fire engines from nearby talukas were pressed into service and the fire was brought under control.

Mamlatdar Jagdish Chaudhary said chemicals leaked from one of the barrels in the truck and caused the fire.

First the truck caught fire and the flames spread into the truck, killing three people. He said three workers suffered serious burns and one worker was still missing. The official added that cooling work was continuing during the descent.
