A 12th grade student, who was scolded for taking a selfie at school in Madhya Pradesh, jumped to his death

NEW DELHI: A Class 12 student died by suicide on Thursday after school authorities confronted him about using a mobile phone and taking selfies in the school grounds.
Raj Osari, 17, living in a government hostel in Mandleshwar, jumped from the historic Jam Gate despite attempts by his relatives and security guard to stop him.
“While he was trying to jump, his relatives and the security guard in the area asked him not to do it, but he did not listen to them and took the extreme step,” said Dharamraj Meena, Superintendent of Police of Khargone district.
Osari was taken to a government hospital in Mandleshwar, where he was declared dead.
The incident took place after complaints from both the school principal and the hostel warden regarding Osari’s mobile phone use. His uncle Jitendra Osari told the police that the hostel manager had contacted him regarding the issue.
According to police, the school principal objected to Osari taking a selfie at school. Osari reportedly responded with threats of suicide or flight.
Osari’s family was called to the school, but he ran away before they arrived. When he returned to the hostel later that night, he left again on Thursday morning, prompting a search by school staff.
Police seized Osari’s mobile phone from the site. While initial investigations suggest a possible motive is fear of familial repercussions, police are continuing a thorough investigation to rule out other possibilities.
