Cold weather calls for a break as Gauteng heatwave continues

Temperatures are expected to rise to 30 degrees once again.

The scorching heatwave is expected to continue at least through Monday as weekend residents scrambled to keep cool.

Many provinces across the country, including Gauteng, Limpopo, the North West and the Free State, have experienced seriously unpleasant weather conditions, with temperatures soaring into the high 30s in some areas.

Warning

The last of the heatwave is expected to continue on Monday, with temperatures expected to rise above 30 degrees once again, regional forecaster Gauteng Weather warned on X (officially Twitter).

“Warning: Monday is the last day of the second heatwave of the new season in Gauteng.

Temperatures in Johannesburg are forecast to start at at least 17°C, then become very hot and rise up to 35°C

Pretoria is also expected to be hot, with scorching temperatures starting from a minimum of 20°C to very hot and reaching a high of 37°C.

South African Weather Service (SAWS) It also issued an advisory regarding the heatwave.

“A heatwave with persistently high temperatures is expected in central and eastern parts of both the North West province and the Free State, as well as northern parts of KwaZulu-Natal, Gauteng, Mpumalanga and Limpopo.”

Snooze with warnings

However, some states need to exercise caution as SAWS issues yellow level warnings for severe storms; This could result in damage to infrastructure, disruption to travel and disruption of municipal and essential services in KwaZulu-Natal.

“Yellow level 1 warning: Severe thunderstorms causing strong winds and localized property damage are expected across the extreme eastern parts of the Eastern Cape.

“Yellow level 2 warning: Devastating snow leading to local traffic disruptions and local livestock loss is expected in the northern and central highlands of the Eastern Cape from Monday evening to Tuesday,” SAWS warned.

SAWS also issued a level 4 yellow warning for devastating rains in the eastern parts of the Eastern Cape, which caused flooding of communities, roads and damage to property.

“Yellow level 1 warning: devastating rain was also expected along the coast and adjacent inland parts of the Eastern Cape, leading to residential flooding, road flooding and property damage.”
