Police chase ends with crash and arrest of 31-year-old man – Indianapolis News | Indiana Weather | Indiana Traffic

CARMEL, Ind. (WISH) — A 31-year-old man will face criminal charges after a police chase ended in a crash that closed the Keystone Parkway late Saturday night and into the early hours Sunday, police said.

Raheem David Murray remained in the Hamilton County jail in Noblesville Sunday afternoon.

Carmel police said: A social media post Sunday afternoon He said officers chased Murray into the southbound lanes of the northbound Keystone Parkway. A collision with another vehicle soon followed and Murray fled on foot before officers caught him.

The driver of the other vehicle, whose identity Carmel police have not publicly identified, was treated at a nearby hospital and later released.

The Carmel deputy police chief told News 8 via email that the crash started just before 10:30 p.m. Saturday on Keystone Parkway near 126th Street.

Photos taken by News 8’s Adele Reich around midnight Saturday show a white SUV north of 116th Street. He said drivers were being diverted from the parkway.

A social media post from Carmel police showed small photos of what appeared to be a suitcase containing plastic bags of marijuana; firearm; and a damaged black car. Carmel police released photos of the suitcase and car early Sunday night.

Carmel police have not said what led to the chase for Murray or when the crash occurred.

Prison records appear The Indianapolis man was booked into the Hamilton County jail at 3:30 Sunday morning. He faces preliminary felony charges of dealing in marijuana; possession of marijuana; unlawfully carrying a handgun after being convicted of a felony within the past 15 years; and resisting law enforcement. He also faces preliminary misdemeanor charges of driving while suspended; resisting law enforcement; careless driving; and leaving the scene of the accident.

Online court records show an arrest warrant for Raheem David Murray issued in April from Marion Superior Court 27. In that case, filed in February 2023, the man pleaded guilty to one count of unlawful carrying of a handgun after a prior felony conviction; and marijuana dealing. Records show Judge Peggy Ryan Hart sent the man to a work-release program for two years, excluding the 238 days he spent in jail before he was sentenced.
