Hathras, Uttar Pradesh:

A 15-year-old boy from Uttar Pradesh’s Hathras district died at a Delhi hospital, a day after a major surgery to remove a staggering 56 objects such as watch batteries, knives, nails and other metal items from his stomach.

The discovery of multiple foreign objects in the body of Class 9 student Aditya Sharma has stunned the medical community and shaken his family, the boy’s father Sanchit Sharma, a Hathras-based medical representative, told PTI.

The boy died a day after surgery at Safdarjung Hospital due to increased heart rate and alarmingly low blood pressure, his father said.

Sanchit said that the foreign bodies in Aditya’s stomach were detected during multiple medical check-ups at different hospitals in Uttar Pradesh, Jaipur and Delhi.

He said his family’s ordeal began when his son complained of severe abdominal pain and difficulty breathing.

Sanchit said Aditya was first taken to a local hospital in Hathras and then on medical advice, he was transferred to Jaipur hospital, where he discharged the patient after brief treatment.

However, when the boy’s symptoms resurfaced, his family took him to a hospital in Aligarh, where he underwent surgery to alleviate his breathing discomfort.

A post-operative ultrasound at Aligarh hospital on October 26 revealed the presence of around 19 fragments in Aditya’s body, after which doctors referred him to a more advanced medical facility in Noida. Another scan conducted here revealed the presence of approximately 56 metal fragments; This led the family to move the boy to Safdarjung Hospital in Delhi, where he underwent major surgery on October 27.

“Doctors said that around 56 foreign objects were removed from my son’s body after the surgery at this hospital in Delhi. Three more foreign objects were later removed, which surprised even the doctors, who admitted that they had no idea how this was medically possible.” he said.

“I must say the doctors did their best but perhaps fate had willed otherwise. My son died a day after the surgery at the Delhi hospital as his heart rate rose rapidly and his blood pressure dropped alarmingly,” Sanchit said. he said.

Sanchit admitted that Aditya’s condition surprised even the doctors as there were no signs of injury in his mouth or throat, indicating whether the little boy swallowed the substances deliberately or accidentally.

He said: “I have lost my only son and am now left alone with my daughter, who, like all of us, has been shaken by this terrible, unexplained and mysterious tragedy that has hit us so suddenly.” He said Aditya’s unexplained death raised many questions, leaving both his family and medical experts baffled.

The family lives in Ratangarbha colony in Hathras.

There was no comment from Safdarjung Hospital on the matter.
