ST JAMES, Jamaica — A St James farmer has been named as a suspect in the 2022 shooting death of a man in his society.

HE 26– year-old Terry Atkinson, from the local German town of Sand Lane. Atkinson is charged with murder, shooting with intent and unlawful possession of a firearm.

The deceased was identified as 26-year-old Gary Morgan from the same community.

Reports state that around 1:45 pm on Sunday, September 4, 2022, a witness was at a cook shop and observed Atkinson at Morgan’s premises along with eight other men, all armed with handguns.

The men reportedly opened fire on the witness, causing the man to run for safety, and as he fled, loud explosions were heard from Morgan’s location.

When the shooting calmed down, Morgan was found to have gunshot wounds and was taken to the hospital, where he later died.

On Wednesday, October 30, 2024, a statement from the witness incriminating Atkinson was recorded. Police said Atkinson was captured and subsequently charged following an interview in the presence of his lawyer on Friday, November 1, 2024. He said the court date has been finalized.
