Australia A – India A match, Ishan Kishan’s argument with referee Shawn Craig, ball tampering allegations, video, highlights

India Goalkeeper Ishan Kishan may face a sanction following a verbal altercation with referee Shawn Craig on the fourth day of the match against Australia A in Mackay over allegations of ball tampering.

The start of Sunday’s match at the Great Barrier Reef Arena was postponed after the Indian team argued with Craig over the replacement of the match ball due to scratch marks.

“No more discussion, let’s play,” Craig was heard saying over the stump microphone.

“This is not an argument.”

Kishan asked: “So do we have to play this ball?

“This is a very stupid decision.”

The Indian gloveman’s comments were understandably not to Craig’s liking, and Craig replied: “Excuse me. You will be on report due to opposition.

“This is inappropriate behavior.”

Craig also hinted that India players were responsible for the scratch that led to the change of ball. However, he did not explain why the referees decided to change the ball.

“You scratch it, we’ll switch the ball,” Craig was heard saying.

“We changed the ball because of your actions.”

If India A are found to have deliberately altered the condition of the ball, the players involved could face bans under Cricket Australia’s code of conduct.

“Any action(s) that may alter the condition of the ball, which is not specifically permitted under Law 41.3.2, may be considered unfair conduct,” the code of conduct states.

“Referees shall use their judgment to apply the principle that actions taken to maintain or improve the condition of the ball are permissible provided that no artificial substance is used. Actions aimed at damaging the condition of the ball or accelerating the deterioration of the ball will not be permitted.

“Without limiting this offense, the offending party’s team captain may violate this Article 2.15 if the Player or Player Support Personnel involved in the offense cannot be identified or where the violation is planned or systematic. “The team captain either knew or should have known that the violation had occurred.”
