Investigation into allegations of forced labor continues

The Criminal Investigation Department’s Human Trafficking Unit is investigating allegations of forced labor in Rakiraki.

This involves a construction company that was fined $10,000 for housing its employees, including locals and foreigners, in a shipping container that was not properly ventilated.

A joint investigation was also conducted by the Ministry of Labor.

Crime Chief ACP Mesake Waqa confirmed that a report had been lodged and the investigation was ongoing.

The Minister of Labor warned that any treatment that endangers the dignity and safety of workers will not be tolerated.
