A woman was refused bail Aniah’s law after Allegation that he killed his father and shot his motherShe shoots at her ex-boyfriend and his brother in Mobile.

On Wednesday, Judge George Zhogby ruled in favor of the state’s motion to deny bond to Charity Matthews, who is accused of two days of fatal shootings.

The Anah law, passed in 2022, added to the list of serious crimes for which a defendant can be held without bail before trial.

According to trial testimony, Charity first shot at her brother, Michael Matthews, while he was in his car on Oct. 19, and later that day, she also shot her ex-boyfriend, Samson Moore. He survived his injuries.

The next day, Charity shot her parents, Twinetta and Robert Matthews, killing Robert and seriously injuring his mother. Robert Matthews reportedly became pastor Joy Tabernacle Full Gospel Church.

After allegedly shooting his parents Charity fled to a local hotel with her two children He was arrested in the early morning hours of October 21.

Charity believed her mother and her ex-boyfriend were possessed by “demons” and repeatedly referred to “Yahweh,” two law enforcement officials testified at the hearing.

Defense attorney Tom Walsh asked Detective Rory Graves about his interview with Charity following her arrest.

Graves testified that Charity told him it was “an order from the Gods” and that Moore was a “big demon.”

According to Graves’ statement, Charity also said she thought Moore, the father of her two children, was sexually abusing the children.

Graves said Charity told him similar things about Twinetta being surrounded by demons and “evil dark magic” in her family’s home trying to strangle her daughter.

“He basically talked about something that affected his mother or he believed demons existed,” Graves said. “And he referenced demonic dark magic that could potentially get his daughter under the pillow.”

It was claimed that Charity confronted Twinetta with a gun and Robert intervened.

A struggle resulted in Charity shooting Robert before shooting Twinetta.

Corporal Phillip Morris also testified that after officers arrived at the hotel to arrest Charity, she locked herself in the room with her children for more than three hours.

During this time, Morris said he heard officers repeatedly shout Yahweh during the confrontation and even after he was handcuffed.

Morris stated that the children were not harmed.

The prosecution argued that Charity showed signs of mental instability, posed a danger to society and a flight risk.

They said he could get mental health resources from the Mobile County Metro Jail.

The defense argued that the prison did not have the appropriate resources to provide help with possible mental problems.

The preliminary hearing of the case will be held in November.
