‘He abused the law’: GOP bill promises to shut down key Biden-era policies benefiting immigrants

FIRST ON FOX: Rep. Jim Banks, R-Ind. A bill drafted by U.S. would halt a series of Biden-era moves to allow immigrants into the U.S. or protect them from deportation as Republicans await a potential political uprising next year to change that. US direction immigration policy.

Banks are introducing the latest Executive Branch Amnesty Act, which aims to limit the Biden administration’s use of humanitarian parole to allow immigrants into the U.S. and the use of Temporary Protected Status to protect them from deportation.

The Biden administration has used parole to allow 1,450 immigrants per day to enter using the CBP One app at the border, as part of its efforts to expand legal immigration routes to curb the ongoing migrant crisis at the border. also allowed 500,000 immigrants From Cuba, Haiti, Nicaragua and Venezuela to the USA to fly to the USA using a separate program.

The Biden administration says these programs work to limit immigration and ensure an orderly process at the border. Republicans claimed the moves amounted to an abuse of parole to allow admission of foreign nationals who would not normally be admitted. The CHNV program was briefly paused after DHS found evidence of fraud from sponsors.

“This is a key element of our efforts to address the unprecedented levels of migration in our hemisphere, and other countries around the world see it as a model for tackling the growing problem of irregular migration that they are also experiencing.” Homeland Security Secretary Alejando Mayorkas he said earlier this year.

Separately, the Biden administration has used Temporary Protected Status (TPS) to allow immigrants from countries facing conflict and hardship, including countries such as Venezuela and Haiti, to be protected from deportation.

Critics are from Charleroi, Pa., Springfield, Ohio, and Logansport, Indiana as an example of some parts of the country struggling with an influx of parolee immigrants.

Banks’ bill would restrict TPS designations by requiring Congress to approve them for 12-month periods and requiring Congress to take additional steps to extend them.

The bill would also limit parolees to a hard cap of 1,000 per year; this figure has been significantly reduced from the hundreds of thousands currently allowed. Parole will also be allowed only for limited circumstances, such as medical emergencies.

The bill would also impose stricter eligibility and placement criteria for unaccompanied minors, amid reports that UACs have been lost to authorities. Meanwhile, DHS documents such as Notices to Appear and the CBP One application will be prohibited from being used for airport security checks.

While the bill would face an uphill battle in a Democrat-controlled Senate and would almost certainly be vetoed by President Biden or Harris, the bill is likely to receive significant support from Republican-controlled chambers and governors.

“The Biden-Harris administration has misused laws on the books to grant legal status to millions of noncitizens. Republicans must bring our immigration system back into line with Congress’s original intent and ensure that parole is used only as a humanitarian measure of last resort to help foreign nationals in times of disaster.” ,” Banks said in a statement.

Banks mentioned Logansport, Indiana, which has seen an estimated 5,000 Haitian immigrants over several years, in addition to the millions who have crossed the southern border.

“Over the last three years, millions of aliens have made the dangerous and illegal journey across our southern border because of the Biden-Harris administration’s promise of future amnesty. Democrats have broken our immigration system, and my bill will help fix that by ending mass parole and other magnets that force people into illegal immigration.” It somehow pulls it here.”

The bill comes days before Election Day as Vice President Harris and former President Trump duel over who is the better candidate on border security and immigration. Harris noted a recent but sharp decline in border encounters under the Biden administration and criticized Trump for not supporting a bipartisan security bill to increase funding for the border. Trump claims the border crisis stems from a reversal of the Biden administration’s policies and has vowed to reinstate many of them and launch a campaign of mass deportations.
