Mobile phones of 2 people were stolen at knifepoint in Chandigarh

There were two snatching incidents targeting pedestrians on bicycle paths on Saturday.

In the first incident, two men on bicycles snatched the mobile phone of a 19-year-old man from the cycle lanes near Sector 53, Spring Garden, at 9.10 am on Saturday.

The victim, Ankit (19), a sales manager currently residing in Sector 52, Kajheri, was on his way to work when he was stopped by two men on a black motorcycle. While one of them restrained Ankit, the other wearing a headscarf held a knife to his neck and snatched his mobile phone. The robbers fled before Ankit could note the number of the motorcycle.

An FIR under Sections 309(4) and 3(5) of the BNS Act has been registered at Sector 36 Police Station.

In another snatching incident, Purnima, a resident of Sector 34-D, was cycling to college when two men on a black motorcycle brandished a knife and snatched her mobile phone near Sector 35/43.

However, Chandigarh Police arrested two suspects involved in two separate snatching cases on the same day. The accused, identified as Arshdeep Singh (24) of Mohali’s Badmajra village and Damanpreet Singh (26) of Mohali’s Kumbra village, were caught a few hours after the second crime.

Police seized stolen phones and the knife used in the crimes. Two people who were referred to the courthouse were arrested and sent to prison.

The police registered additional charges under the BNS Act and sections 317(2) of the Arms Act (25-54-59). Investigators confirmed that the same duo was responsible for both purse snatchings.
