Live updates: Israel strikes Iran as war intensifies in Gaza and Lebanon

About 40 people were killed in an Israeli airstrike on residential buildings in Beit Lahiya, northern Gaza, late Saturday, health officials said.

Al Aqsa Martyrs Hospital spokesman Dr. In addition to those killed, more than 80 people were injured in attacks on a residential area in Beit Lahiya, Khalil Al-Daqran said on Sunday.

Al Daqran estimates that around 1,000 people have been killed since Israel’s new military operation in northern Gaza began earlier this month.

Senior official from the Gaza Ministry of Health, Dr. Maher Shamiya also said that approximately 40 people died, but this number was incomplete due to the lack of ambulance services.

Shamiya said five houses housing displaced persons were hit.

Dr Munir Al Bursh, Director General of Gaza’s Ministry of Health, shared images of the scene on Sunday and said many victims were trapped under the rubble.

Al Bursh said residents used their bare hands to search for survivors.

CNN is unable to confirm the extent of casualties in the Beit Lahiya attack as communications were disrupted in northern Gaza. CNN has reached out to the Israeli military for comment.

The Israel Defense Forces said in a statement on Sunday that IDF troops in the Jabalya area, also in northern Gaza, “continued their operational activities and eliminated more than 40 terrorists in the last day.”

The IDF said that “the troops destroyed the terrorist infrastructure and seized a large amount of military equipment.”

The IDF said a terrorist cell was “eliminated” during a close-quarters encounter in central Gaza. The other day, the IAF, along with its ground troops, attacked military structures in the region.
