A woman who shared images of her office attire on social media sparked debate on TikTok over whether her company was right to tell her she was dressed inappropriately for work.

In the viral video, which has garnered more than 120,000 likes, she revealed that she received an email from the human resources department complaining about her attire.

The outfit in question was a simple black bodycon dress with a high neckline, which the woman’s colleague claimed was “distracting” other staff members that day.

“I received an email from Paula this morning saying she wasn’t happy with the outfit I wore to work,” the woman, who preferred not to share her name, told her male co-worker.

The woman’s colleague looked at her dress and then replied, “I think this is appropriate business attire.” “Okay, I guess that’s the point,” he replied, thinking the problem was solved.

Days later, the woman shot another clip, explaining that she had been called into a meeting with a human resources representative who had initially complained about her attire.

She once again shared the outfit she wore, which consisted of a long-sleeved, V-neck, black wrap dress.

“So today is the day I meet Paula,” he said. “I’m basically wearing a jacket. So he can’t be angry. Can he do it? he asked. “Let’s see what he says.”

The meeting with Paula did not go well. “I have to admit I was a little disappointed to see how you were dressed today after the email,” the HR representative said.

In response, the woman revealed that she spoke to her colleague, who told her there was “nothing wrong” with her outfit.

“I didn’t talk to Matt,” Paula scolded. “I don’t think he’s in a position to say what he actually did. “We need to resolve this issue because we are receiving comments from other staff as well.”

The woman then questioned why she was responsible for other staff being distracted by their attire. “It’s not my fault, Paula,” he said. “That’s kind of up to them.”

Paula later claimed she received comments from the woman’s co-workers who said she was “begging for attention” with the clothes she wore to work.

OK, yes. “Okay,” the woman sneered in response.

When asked if she would dress differently in the future, the woman said she would go shopping on the weekend and thanked Paula for her time. The video divided the TikTok comment section; While some users claimed that the woman’s dress was appropriate, others understood their co-workers’ point of view.

“This is a club dress,” one person wrote.

“I was so ready to be with you! But then you backed away from the camera,” another commenter added.

A third person claimed: “HR is right,” while another described the outfit as too “short and tight” for the workplace.

“It would be better if you wear it with tights and a long cardigan. But this alone is not office wear,” said another person.

Meanwhile, others defended the woman, stating that it wasn’t her “fault” that her colleagues were distracted. “I think the comments about you begging for attention are completely out of line, but they’re also brother to these, office appropriate,” one supporter said.

“I’m a little disappointed in the comments,” another person added, and another commenter responded: “Same. Other people need to mind their own business.”

“It speaks volumes when someone else’s clothes affect your work performance.”
