New Disturbance in the Caribbean

SARASOTA, Fla. (WWSB) – The National Hurricane Center has detected a disturbance in the southwestern Caribbean Sea. A large low pressure area is likely to form in the middle of the week. There is a 20% chance of it becoming a tropical depression within the next seven days, and no chance at all within two days.

The GFS model captured the potential development earlier this week. The model shows it moving northeastward if development occurs. The European model is less favorable. It should be noted that in this region the slip is low and the water is very warm. Both are necessary for the development of a cyclone.
