Belkeri iron ore disappearance case: Karnataka Congress MLA Satish Sail sentenced to 7 years imprisonment

A Bengaluru court on Saturday sentenced Congress MLA from Karwar Satish Sail in Karnataka to seven years in prison after finding him guilty of fraud in the Belkeri iron ore disappearance case.

Six people were sentenced to seven years in prison in the Iron Ore export case.

Following the sentence handed down by the Special Court of Public Representatives, Sail’s MLA membership was also annulled due to a prison sentence exceeding two years in accordance with the provisions of Article 190(3) of the Constitution.

The special court on Thursday declared Sail guilty in the illegal iron ore export case, ordered the immediate arrest of all the accused and postponed the sentence to Saturday.

Sail, along with Forest officer Mahesh Biliye and Mallikarjuna Shipping, were among those convicted for their involvement in the scam.

The case concerns the illegal transportation of over 11,000 metric tons of seized iron ore without official permission.

The court heard the matter after the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) conducted an investigation into the matter and filed a criminal complaint.
