Freeze watch affecting Cape May County on Monday

Freeze watch affecting Cape May County on Monday

The National Weather Service issued a freeze watch for Cape May County at 2:41 pm on Saturday, effective from 2 a.m. to 9 a.m. on Monday.

“Temperatures below freezing are as low as 30 degrees possible,” the weather service says.

“Frost and freezing conditions can kill crops and other sensitive plants and possibly damage unprotected outdoor installations,” the weather service explains. “Take action now to protect light plants from the cold.”

Freeze monitoring or alert – this is what it means

Frost warnings are issued from May to October, when low temperatures are expected to be 29-32 degrees (but can be extended if necessary). If temperatures have the potential to drop below these thresholds, freeze monitoring can be done several days in advance.

According to the weather service, if a frost warning or watch has been issued for your area, there is little you can do to protect plants. If you can move your sensitive plants indoors, do so because freezing will likely kill them, depending on the severity of conditions.
