Options for Cox Plate champion Via Sistina

Where do we go to Via Sistina?

Trained by Chris Waller and ridden by James McDonald, the Yulong Investments mare attacked her rivals in the Cox Plate at Moonee Valley on Saturday.

Via Sistina won the Cox Plate by a record eight lengths, completely obliterating Winx’s record by close to two seconds in the process.

Team owner Yuesheng Zhang of course wants to win the Melbourne Cup (3200m), but Yulong’s general manager Vin Cox says no decision has been made yet.

“Mr Zhang would love to win the Melbourne Cup, whether it’s via Via Sistina or something else,” Cox said. SENTrack Giddy Up.

“We’ll let that happen over the next few days. It’s exciting to have a horse that can line up, but there’s a bit of playing to do.

“We won’t commit yet.”

Via Sistina is now the favorite for the Melbourne Cup following her remarkable Cox Plate victory but that won’t force the owner and the Waller stable into a decision.

Cox says there are other options including a spell, the Champions Stakes (2000m) on the final day of the Flemington Carnival and even a possible trip to Hong Kong.

“Probably the biggest debate is whether we go to the paddock and suspend him for next year,” Cox added.

“You can go to the well so many times, so should we put him away or is the Champions Bet an option? Is the (Melbourne) Cup an option? Is Hong Kong an option?

“There’s a lot to think about. You don’t just want to think about what’s going to happen tomorrow, but maybe longer term, you want to think about what could happen next season.

“We’re not going to overcommit to anything. We’ll see what happens.

“This is an exciting problem, a rare problem indeed. “It’s exciting to think about any of these races.”

McDonald, who won the Melbourne Cup with Verry Elleegant in 2021, thinks the nation-stopping race is the perfect next event for Via Sistina.

“The biggest unknown factor is will he run the 3200 metres? “I think he will run the 3200,” McDonald said. Whateley from SEN.

“He lives at Fastnet Rock, not the most famous stayers, but he’s out of a Galileo mare and it feels like that mare will run all day.

“He broke a record in the Cox Plate in the best possible form, I did a sustained run of 800 meters and he loved every minute of it and is in the best form of his life at the moment.

“Mares tend to be fit and I think this will be a good race for her.

“I would love to see him there, I think he has as good a chance as anyone.”

McDonald added: “I think the decision will be made within the next 24 hours.”

Via Sistina has raced six times since arriving in Australia in March, claiming four Group 1 wins and has five Group 1s from 19 career starts.

Sports Betting He is currently the $4.50 favorite for the Melbourne Cup on November 5 and the $2 favorite for the Champions Stakes on November 9.
