The event, advertised on flyers in New York, was one of many similar competitions hosted by YouTube personality Anthony Po.

As word spread on social media, thousands of people RSVP’d to the event, where $50 was promised to the winner.

“It started out as a stupid joke and now it’s turned into a mess,” said Paige Nguyen, the YouTube creator’s producer.

Many of the Chalamet impersonators and spectators have moved to a new park.

On a makeshift stage, the lookalikes were asked about their romantic plans. The actor’s rumored partner is Kylie Jenner.

They were also asked to demonstrate their proficiency in French and what they could do to make the world a better place.

In the end, the audience chose a winner: Staten Island resident and college senior Miles Mitchell.

Dressed in a purple Willy Wonka outfit, he threw candy from his briefcase into a crowd of young fans.

“I’m excited and overwhelmed at the same time,” he said. “There were so many similar people. It was truly ridiculous.”
