Priest and his family burned alive in Islamist attack

NAIROBI, Kenya — Islamist villagers in eastern Uganda burned to death a priest and his family who led three Muslims to faith in Christ, the pastor’s brother said.

Pastor Weere Mukisa, his wife Annet Namugaya, 25, and their two daughters (7-year-old Judith Banirye and 4-year-old Sylvia Bamukisa) were killed when attackers set their home on fire shortly before 3am. October 13, said James Tusubira, brother of the church leader. Pastor Mukisa was 30 years old.

The tragic attack occurred in Kibale village, Mpumiro District, Bulange Sub-County, Namutumba District. Pastor Mukisa led Muslims to Christ in September.

“When the three young Muslims became Christians, my brother started receiving threatening messages that he should cut off all contact with these three young people and that the act committed was against Islam’s teaching not to convert to the religion of infidels,” Tusubira said. Morning Star News.

Tusubira said he saw flames and smoke coming out of the family’s house at 2.48am.

“We rushed to the scene and saw that the house had been set on fire and five bodies were burned beyond recognition,” he said. “A lot of people started coming for iftar. A plastic bottle of gasoline was found outside the house.”

Tusubira said the attackers were from a neighboring village and were known to the priest.

The murders were reported to the police in Kibale. Tusubira said police were trying to find the fleeing suspects.

He said that the villagers were in great shock and fear in the face of this terrible attack.

“Please pray for us so that these radical Muslims who destroyed my brother and his entire family will be held accountable,” Tusubira said.

Mother burned with acid

A mother of three in Nankoma, Bugiri District was beaten and burned with acid by her Muslim husband after he learned that she believed in Jesus.

Hidaaya Nabafa, 27, said he was treated in hospital for serious burns after the attack by Juma Nsibambi, 42.

Nabafa received Jesus in August at a church in the village of Nankoma; It was not disclosed for security reasons. Keeping her faith secret, she had gone to worship on October 9 while her husband was in Kampala.

“When I returned at 4pm I found my husband at home, he asked me where I was; I remained silent for a while,” Nabafa told Morning Star News from his hospital bed. “I finally decided to tell him the truth that I gave my life to Jesus.”

He said there were Christian tracts about the life of Jesus.

“When he heard my confession, he got angry, boxed me and started beating me,” Nabafa said. “I tried to raise the alarm for rescue but it was all in vain.”

Nsibambi left him on the ground and left for a while, and when he returned, he poured battery acid on him.

“I lost consciousness and found myself in the hospital bed,” said the mother of three children, ages 7, 5 and 2.

Neighbors came and took him to a hospital in Bugiri, where his treatment was expected to continue for a few more weeks due to the severity of the burns. He is expected to need reconstructive surgery for parts of his body that were severely injured by the acid.
