Marlboro County Humane Society is out of dog food after a pair of thefts, agency says

MARLBORO COUNTY, S.C. (WBTW) – The Marlboro County Humane Society is out of dog food after its storage building was broken into twice last week, the agency said.

Humane said, “As if the fact that our shelter operates with dogs and cats 3-4 times its capacity and the mental and physical fatigue of our entire staff is not enough, we are experiencing the stress of finding food because we have to feed the animals under our care.” the society wrote on its Facebook page Friday night.

Approximately 100 to 125 pounds of food per day is required to feed dogs cared for at the shelter.

The agency filed reports with the Bennettsville Police Department and the Marlboro County Sheriff’s Office. Authorities said they plan to increase surveillance in the area.

“So if you’re planning to come pick up the rest of the cat food, this is your warning,” the shelter’s post read.

The Humane Society is offering a cash reward for revealing the identity of the person responsible for the theft and is accepting donations at 242 Ag Street in Bennettsville.
