My mother can’t believe her eyes when she receives her birth certificate in the USA

A woman who gave birth in America was stunned when she calculated the cost of giving birth without health insurance.

While the NHS has its challenges, Brits are lucky to have a free healthcare service that ensures traditional or surgical check-ups and births are covered for expectant mothers.

But the US system relies on private insurance and government programs.

Quin, a creator of lifestyle and motherhood content, gave birth to her second child about 10 weeks ago. The American mother recently received her hospital bill and exclaimed: “My mind is blown.”

Quin’s birth experience was simple; He was hospitalized for less than 48 hours and did not require any surgery. “I was healthy, my baby was healthy, but my bill was still too high,” she said in disbelief.

People are shocked by the staggering amount it costs to give birth to a child in the United States. Quin detailed his bill on his page @quinmhamiltonIt revealed that room and board costs $25,489 (£19,726), a recovery room costs $12,322 (£9,536) and a labor and delivery room costs $5,776 (£4,470).

Laboratory fees were $1,885 (£1,458) and medical and surgical supplies and devices were $2,088 (£1,615) plus the pharmacy fee was $1,933 (£1,495). His total bill would have been $49,494.08 (£38,303).

Quin said: “I’m blown away right now. I didn’t pay the bill when our first son was born – I don’t even think I saw it – but now I see it and I’m so shocked that this is how much it costs to have a baby in the United States.”

He added: “Thank goodness the insurance covered almost the entire bill but it’s still crazy.”

Reactions started pouring in from parents around the world, with one commenting: “I did skin-to-skin contact right away, like what?” Another said: “This is mind blowing, truly shocking.”
