Ludhiana: Police bust gang of auto drivers who were robbing passengers

Sahnewal police busted an autorickshaw gang by arresting four accused and recovered two sharp-edged weapons, an autorickshaw and eight stolen mobile phones from their possession. Police claim to have solved 12 purse snatching cases with arrests.

The arrested accused have been identified as 24-year-old Sunny Chauhan and Bagga alias Manpreet Singh, both residents of Basant Nagar, 34-year-old Sunny Kumar Verma of New Azad Nagar and 24-year-old Prince alias Prem Kumar of Muslim Colony Sherpur Kalan. .

Additional deputy commissioner of police (ADCP) Dev Singh said the accused would take passengers to isolated areas and threaten them with weapons before stealing their valuables.

The ADCP added that Manpreet Singh had four previous FIRs for snatching, Sunny Kumar had two and Prem Kumar was already facing kidnapping charges under the POCSO Act.

An FIR was registered against the accused at Sahnewal police station under Sections 303(2), 307, 317 and 3(5) of the BNS Act. ADCP also added that more important information was expected from the accused during interrogation.
