Woman seen applying toxic foam to her hair while bathing in Yamuna river

The Yamuna is currently filled with toxic foam. However, this did not deter devotees from taking a dip in the river on the occasion of Chhath Puja. In a viral video online, a woman is seen washing her hair with foam flying around, shocking netizens.

Every year around this time, foam appears on the surface of the river, but devotees ignore the warnings and continue the festivities in the river, bathing and diving in the dirty water.

The woman in the video can be seen taking a bath in the river and even using the foam in her hair as shampoo. There are a few more women standing in knee-deep water with foam flying around them.

Citizens were shocked when they saw women standing in the water and washing. One user wrote: “Is this really happening?”

Another ironically noted: “All that suds is not shampoo!”

Toxic foam can cause various health hazards. One user noted that the woman should see a dermatologist within a few days.

Others said ignorance led them to be in the river with toxic foam around them.

“Education plays a very important role here. It is heartbreaking to see people using this water without being aware of the health problems they may face,” said one user.

According to experts, the foam seen in the Yamuna River consists of high levels of untreated sewage and industrial pollutants.

Chhath festival is the most popular festival in Bihar as well as some parts of Uttar Pradesh and Jharkhand. As part of this, female devotees take a dip once in the evening and again the next morning. While those living near Yamuna prefer to go there to complete rituals, others use makeshift water pits.
