After Maharashtra’s Cyber Police department raised concerns about ticket blackmarketing, BookMyShow issued a statement addressing the issue. The online ticket platform has assured that it is working hard to prevent illegal ticket sales, especially after the recent controversy surrounding Coldplay concert tickets. Police called on the platforms to take action to stop the resale of tickets at inflated prices.

A BookMyShow spokesperson said the company had filed an FIR regarding ticket black marketing and scalping. “In addition to the FIR (First Information Report) filed by BookMyShow regarding the black marketing and scaling of tickets for live entertainment experiences that are in high demand recently, we have also provided all necessary information and details to law enforcement agencies in their investigation and will continue,” the spokesperson said, according to HT. “To proactively combat ticket scaling and black marketing, practices that are condemned and punished by law in India,” he said.

The spokesperson added that the platform is committed to providing the best experiences to India’s entertainment fans. “BookMyShow has always strived to deliver the best experiences to India’s entertainment-loving audience. “With Coldplay’s India tour, Maroon 5’s upcoming India performance, Lollapalooza India and many more events to come, we are committed to delivering the biggest and most important global events to Indian consumers, who we firmly believe deserve the best,” the spokesperson added.

This comes after Maharashtra’s cyber police directed BookMyShow to impose stricter measures, including name-based ticket sales for upcoming events such as Coldplay’s January concerts. Concerns have been raised about black marketing of tickets and exploitation of fans after fans faced difficulties booking tickets for major concerts. The police issued this notice to ensure fair ticket distribution and prevent overselling prices.

The controversy began when BookMyShow crashed shortly after ticket sales for a Coldplay concert began on September 22. Despite requiring users to register and limiting purchases to four tickets per transaction, tickets quickly sold out and soon appeared on other platforms at much higher prices.
