Israel sent troops to Syria and detained the alleged ‘Iran terrorist network leader’

The Israeli army announced on Sunday (November 3) that a Syrian national, alleged to be an agent of Iranian intelligence, was arrested during an operation that reportedly took place earlier this year.

This is the first time in the current war that Israel has announced that it will send troops to Syria.

“Agent of the Iranian terrorist network”

The military said the man, identified as Ali Suleiman al-Assi, was an “Iranian terrorist network agent” and that the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) was collecting information about his movements near the Israel-Syria border. Israel claims this is linked to the Iranian network organizing operations in southern Syria.

Israel says Al-Assi’s capture prevents potential attacks.

“The operation by Israeli Defense Forces units to detain al-Assi prevented a future attack and led to the disclosure of the operational methods of Iranian terrorist networks located near the Golan Heights,” the Israeli army said in a statement. The statement was included.

When did the arrest happen?

It is stated that Al-Assi, who is reported to be from Saida in southern Syria, is currently being held in Israel for questioning.

Israeli officials shared few specific details about the exact timeline of al-Assi’s arrest but said, “His activities included gathering intelligence on IDF (Israeli military) units in the border area for the network’s future terrorist activities.”

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, a UK-based monitor, reported an incident in July in which Israeli forces captured a Syrian man near the village of Al-Razatiya near the Golan Heights. The Observatory reported that the man, who worked as a driver, was captured by Israeli forces who crossed the border to detain him and was then transported to Israel.

“The Israeli military force, consisting of three vehicles and one armored vehicle, crossed the border, entered the village and took the man to the occupied Golan Heights,” the war monitor said. he said.

Israel has recently been involved in an escalating full-scale war with the Iran-backed Hezbollah. This comes after Hezbollah intensified its cross-border actions, which it claimed supported Hamas. Hezbollah launched a sweeping series of attacks from Lebanon into northern Israel last year, and activity increased following Hamas’ major attack on Israel on October 7, 2023.
